Natural Hair Fall Treatment Options

Today I’ve got three natural hair fall treatment options for you guys if you’re struggling with hair fall and hair loss. In my clinical history, I’ve treated a lot of people with Hashimoto’s disease or thyroid dysfunction. And these ladies typically lose a lot of hair – It’s one of the things that they hate the most.

So, the three things that I’m going to discuss with you today are

  • A tea
  • Something to use topically
  • And the one nutrient that you cannot be without if you want to prevent hair fall.

So, number one – nettle tea. I made a post about this just recently. Nettle tea is one of my favourites! Nettle leaf is packed full of silica, which is one of our hair’s core building blocks. It’s what our hair is made off.

Nettle leaf is also anti microbial and anti inflammatory, and it helps with circulation to the scalp. To use Nettle Leaf tea really effectively, this is what I want you to do.

  • Of an evening, add 2 heaped tablespoons of organic Nettle Leaf to a 500ml jar of boiling water (find loose leaf nettle in the tea section at Wray Organic Mt Gravatt).
  • Leave to steep overnight. Nettle is super rich in minerals, and this long steep will help to draw them out into the water.
  • In the morning, strain through a tea strainer and heat on the stove to your liking. It should be dark green to black.
  • If you find the flavour too unpalatable (it kind of tastes like grass, but this isn’t a fine earl grey with a twist of lemon on the porch. It is a medicine) add some licorice root or other tea you enjoy the flavour of to the blend.
  • Drink this tea for 30 days before deciding if it’s the right treatment for you. It can be continued indefinitely – it’s so nutritious!
Nettle tea is a powerhouse of nutrition!

The second thing I recommend is a natural hair mask which I have been using for ages. It involves castor oil. Castor oil has been used as a hair tonic for hundreds of years. It is rich in ricinoleic acid which really helps with circulation in the scalp.

The think a lot of people can’t get past about castor oil, is that it’s really sticky, so mix it with some coconut oil and that will help with application and removal.

Then we want to add a couple of essential oils to the mix which are really going to supercharge this hair mask. These oils are rosemary and peppermint, 2 herbs which also increase circulation to the scalp increased circulation to the scalp. We’re starting to see a trend here aren’t we? This is important because if you don’t have good circulation to the scalp, then your hair follicles are not going to receive all of the nutrients they need to be healthy and grow strong hair.

Here is what you’re going to do –

Mix together in a bowl

  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 1 Tablespoon Castor oil
  • 2-3 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 2-3 drops peppermint essential oil

You may find you need double this amount if you have very thick hair.

Directions

  • Gently heat the bowl until they are blended. Placing the bowl over another bowl of boiling water is great.
  • Massage your scalp and hair with this warm oil for 5-10 minutes. This warm oil treatment allows nutrients to seep into the hair follicles, locking the shine.
  • Leave the oil on for another 15 minutes or overnight.
  • Use a mild shampoo to wash away the oil

Do this treatment once a week for a few months for the desired effect.

Castor oil has been used for centuries to achieve luscious locks and a healthy scalp.

The next up is the one nutrient that you just can’t be without if you want to reduce hair fall, and that’s Iron.

So again with that theme of healthy circulation to the scalp, iron is what carries out oxygen in our blood. So if we’re not carrying oxygen to our scalp, those hair follicles are not being oxygenated. This means they’re not making energy, they will become weakened and they’ll lose their grip on the hair shaft

If you are feeling fatigued, yawning a lot, sighing or regularly having to catch you breath, these are signs of iron deficiency. Visit your GP for a simple blood test to determine this. Then visit me in clinic for a protocol to correct the underlying cause for your iron deficiency – don’t just take an iron supplement.

If you are experiencing hair fall, these three things thing help. However, if you are losing your hair due to Hashimoto’s or chronic stress, that needs to be addressed. Always prioritise treating the root cause. Book in your initial consultation to get to the bottom of it.
